2016 Chief's Message


A Fred Maffeo, 86 of West Long Branch passed away peacefully, Friday August 1st at Meridian at Wall.

Our dad was a lucky man.

The loves of his life were his children, their husbands and his grandchildren. His love of God was without question, his faith sustained him always. He was a Parishioner of St. Michaels RC Church, Long Branch where his favorite mass was 4 PM, Saturday afternoon. He was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army serving in Japan during World War II.

Fred was the owner and operator of A. Fred Maffeo Agency a real estate and appraisal firm in Fair Haven where he was born and raised. The firm currently is owned and operated by his daughter and now called Maffeo - Kelly Appraisal Co. Brielle. Fred was a member of the Appraisal Institute with MAI and SRA designations. He served for many years as Tax Assessor for numerous Monmouth County Municipalities.
He was the oldest living Ex-Chief of the Fair Haven Fire Department. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the ARC of Monmouth County.

Fred was a member of the Board of Directors of the The New Jersey Thoroughbred Horseman's Association, and was a long time Thorough Bred Owner. He particularly enjoyed racing his horses at Monmouth Park and was an avid New York Yankee fan.

Surviving is his former wife Jean Mahar Maffeo, of Long Branch. Their two daughters and sons-in-law, Marybeth and Richard Kelly, Brielle and Lisa and David Gilmour, Little Silver; four grandchildren, Elise, Andrew, Tyler and Lizzie.

Visitation Tuesday, August 5th, 5 to 8 pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell Street, Long Branch. The funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 6th, 10:30 am at St. Michaels RC Church, Long Branch. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport.
