MARTIN J. SCANLON
AGE: 79 FAIR HAVEN

Martin J. Scanlon, 79, of Fair Haven, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 20, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He was a sales representative for Gordon Bernard Co., Cincinnati, Ohio, retiring in 2002. Martin served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Martin was a daily communicant at the Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven, where he also was a dedicated volunteer for the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Martin was a member of the Fair Haven Fire Department and the Red Bank Rotary Club. He will be remembered as a coach for Fair Haven's Little League Baseball teams and president of the Fair Haven Little League. Martin was also the president of the Umpires Association of N.J. and established an umpire's mechanic clinic. He was also a founder of the Fair Haven Soccer Program and was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America, receiving the American Silver Scout Award.

Martin is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce; a daughter, Ellen Gail Alfier and her husband Cameron of Tinton Falls; three sons, Harry Martin of Fair Haven, James Donald and his wife Veronica of Little Silver, and Martin Stephen of Tinton Falls; and five grandchildren, Alexander, Matthew, Lynelle, Carolyn and Holly.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Church of the Nativity Chapel, 180 Ridge Road, Fair Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

The family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Basic Needs Comm., Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Road, Fair Haven, NJ 07704, St. Vincent DePaul Society, c/o St. James R.C. Church, 94 Broad St., Red Bank, NJ 07701, or to a charity of your choice. Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements.
