About The Fire Department
Fire Department
The Fair Haven Fire Department is the fire suppression unit of the Fair Haven Volunteer Fire Company No. 1. Run entirely by trained volunteers, the Department responds to a wide range of emergencies including structure fires, vehicle fires, hazardous conditions, and technical rescues. It plays a central role in protecting the lives and property of Fair Haven residents, and also supports surrounding communities through mutual aid agreements that provide additional manpower and equipment during large-scale incidents.
Led by a team of Line Officers, the Fire Department is responsible for training, equipment maintenance, and ensuring readiness for emergency response. During major incidents, it operates in coordination with the EMS, Fire Police, Water Rescue, and Auxiliary units under a unified command structure. The Department remains committed to professionalism, safety, and service, continuing a long-standing tradition of volunteerism and community dedication in Fair Haven.
Fire Cadet Program
The Fair Haven Fire Cadet Program, also known as the Future Firefighters of Fair Haven, offers teens ages 14 to 18 a structured and hands-on introduction to the fire service.
Cadets learn about fire department operations, attend monthly meetings and drills, and assist at real emergency scenes under strict supervision. The program emphasizes safety, responsibility, and leadership, with a clear path to active membership in the department at age 18.
Guided by an Adult Advisory Board and department officers, cadets gain valuable skills in teamwork, equipment handling, and emergency preparedness while supporting the mission of the Fair Haven Fire Department.
Line Officers
Fire department line officers (Chiefs) are the operational leaders of the Fair Haven Fire Department, responsible for overseeing emergency responses, managing crews on scene, and ensuring firefighter safety during incidents. These line officers play a critical part in organizing and directing the department’s day-to-day emergency operations. Line officers are elected within the department based on experience, leadership, and a commitment to training and service, and they play a key role in mentoring new members and maintaining the high standards of the department.
