ELINOR E. “SUE” BENNETT AGE: 71 FAIR HAVEN
Elinor E. “Sue” Bennett, 71, of Fair Haven died Friday, Dec. 19, at the Meridian Nursing facility in Shrewsbury after battling lung cancer. Sue was a 50 year member of the Fair Haven Ladies Auxiliary and a 25 year member of the Fair Haven First Aid Squad. She was First Aid captain in 1991 and the president of the Ladies Auxiliary in 1974. Sue was the treasurer for the Ladies Auxiliary for ten years. Sue will always be remembered for making and serving clam chowder at the Fair Haven Fireman’s fair. A life long resident of Fair Haven, Sue was a graduate from Rumson High School. She was an avid golfer and played bridge with the Central Jersey Bridge Club. She was a retired sign painter and worked part-time at Fairwinds Deli in Fair Haven.
Sue was predeceased by her husband, Arthur W. Bennett and her daughter, Debra J. Cirminiello. Surviving are her son, David J. Bennett, of Manteo, N.C.; her daughter, Diane J. Pomphrey of Pisgah Forest, N.C.; her sister, Barbara Williams, of Newton; her brother, Hank Boardman of Hollywood, Fla.; her brother, Charlie Boardman, of Beaufort, N.C.; four grandchildren, Kristyn Bennett, Hannah Pomphrey, Kelsey Bennett and Henry Pomphrey.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 11:00am at Rumson Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
