On 08/19/07 JAMES W. CONNOR, 86, of MIDDLETOWN, previously of Fair Haven, died Friday, Aug. 17, at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. Mr. Connor served his country honorably as a member of the US Navy during WWII on the carrier USS Swannee serving in the Pacific and Mediterranean Theatres. He retired from Ft. Monmouth, where he worked as facility engineer. Previously, he was a pipe fitter for NJ Natural Gas Company. He was member of the Fair Haven Fire Department, having served as chief in 1958, and was a former captain of the Fair Haven First Aid Squad. He was also a member of the Fair Haven Fire Police. He served proudly for 59 years.
In addition to his parents, John and Elizabeth Feeny Connor; he was predeceased by his son, James T. Connor Sr.; sisters; Helen, Eleanore, Margaret and Jeanne; brothers; John, Joseph and John Joseph. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Dorothy McDonald Connor; sons, John D. Connor and wife, Tina of Howell, Michael J. Connor and wife, Dale of Fair Haven, and Timothy D. Connor and wife, Lori of Ivoryton, Conn.; daughters, Dolores “Dee” Morrissey and husband, David of Tinton Falls and Patricia “Trish” DePonti and husband, Steven of Red Bank; and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Nancy Connor of Long Branch. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Ann Connor and Edward and Margaret Connor, all of Rumson; his sisters, Marie Sanborn of Florida and Catherine Yakle and husband, Daniel, of Iowa; and by 14 grandchildren, James T. Jr., Tobey and husband, John, Brian and wife, Jill, Erin and husband, Shawn, Timothy, Christina, John D. Jr., Steven, Matthew, Shannon and husband, Christopher, Allison, Kyle, Christopher and Mikayla; and four great-grandchildren, Terrance James, Tyler, Thomas and Logan.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Nativity in Fair Haven, and burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown.
