We are delighted that you are considering joining one of our Fire Company organizations! Even if you are not certain you want to join, this is the place to begin the process.
By completing and submitting the following form, you will indicate your interest to us. This is not binding. Depending upon your response to the questions, the appropriate Fire Company Membership Committee member will contact you to guide you through the entire process.
Please be assured that you can withdraw at any time during the process. Nevertheless, we are very hopeful that you will take the plunge and join us.
General Membership Requirements
The Fair Haven Fire Department is always looking for dedicated volunteers to serve our community. Whether you’re interested in emergency response, medical care, support roles, or community events, there’s a place for you here.
Below is what’s required for each:
- Active Firefighter
- Responds to fires and emergencies in Fair Haven and surrounding towns (mutual aid).
- No prior experience needed — full training is provided through the Fire Department and Monmouth County Fire Academy, free of personal expense.
- Must pass a physical exam and background check.
- Fire Social Member

Helps with non-emergency tasks like fundraising and community events (e.g., the Firemen’s Fair).

No experience or physical exam required — just a willingness to help.

- First Aid Squad Member (Includes Water Rescue)
- Joins as an Affiliate Member of the fire department, see below for more information.

Responds to medical emergencies and provides basic life support.

No experience required — you’ll take a First Responder or EMT course after joining free of personal expense.

Must pass a physical exam and background check (unless already an Active Firefighter).
- Affiliate Member (First Aid, Water Rescue, Fire Police, Auxiliary)

For those who want to join the First Aid Squad, Fire Police, or Auxiliary, but not the firefighting side of the department.
