Myles Kirk Standish

Myles Kirk Standish of Oxford, PA, passed away peacefully from complications of Parkinson’s Disease on December 11, 2020.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Regina Standish.

As he was known, Kirk was born in the Bronx, NY, in 1936 to Lucile and Myles Standish. After high school, he worked as a surveyor and then found a call to the Maryknoll Seminary as a Brother. He remained with the order for four years serving in Ossining, NY, and Brookline, MA.

He left the Maryknoll order in 1960 and was employed at Electronics Associates in Long Branch, NJ. It was in Long Branch that he met and married Regina Dedham. Kirk and Regina raised their family in Fair Haven, NJ, where Kirk volunteered for many community activities, including 47 years as a proud member of the Fair Haven Fire Dept., Fire Police Dept., and later as a crossing guard at Sickles School.

Kirk was an avid NY Giants football fan with generational season tickets. His passion for the game was legendary, which got the better of him. He had to eventually pass his tickets on to his son and nephews, who had better self-control. His brothers-in-law refused to visit during football season.

In Oxford, PA, Kirk was a parishioner of the Sacred Heart Church and a fourth order knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Kirk loved his dogs, Stanley, Bam Bam, and Roscoe. During his 32 years working for the US Postal service in Little Silver, NJ, he carried dog biscuits for the furry friends he met on the way. He truly enjoyed walking his route and playing a part in the lives of the families in those
neighborhoods.

Kirk is predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Fred Lehmann, and survived by his wife, Regina, daughters, Michele and Justin Ireys of Anchorage, AK; Kimberly and Randy Burton of Oxford, PA; his son, Myles Kirk and Alexandra Standish of Oxford, PA; 7 grandchildren, Maggie McConnell, Sammy and Teddy Standish; Quinn and Gabbie Burton; and Casey and Indio Ireys; his brother-in-law, Bill Dedham, his sister-in-law, Andrea and George Acord; and many beloved nephews and nieces.

Kirk will always be remembered by his friends, family, and co-workers for his cheerful and sympathetic nature and willingness to help others.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 pm Friday, December 18, 2020 at Sacred Heart Church, 203 Church Rd., Oxford, where family and friends may visit from 1:30 – 2:30 pm.

Interment will be private.
