Thomas A. Vetterl, 93, of Tequesta, FL, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2015. Mr. Vetterl was born in Paterson, NJ. He spent most of his life in Red Bank and Fair Haven, NJ before moving permanently to Florida. Mr. Vetterl was a member of the Church of Nativity, in Fair Haven and St. Jude Catholic Church in Tequesta. Mr. Vetterl graduated from Red Bank High School in 1941, and starred in three sports, football, basketball, and baseball.
Mr. Vetterl was an Army Veteran of World War II serving proudly and distinguishably as a Staff Sergeant in the 112th Field Artillery Division of the New Jersey National Guard. Honorably discharged, Mr. Vetterl was a Civil Service Employee, working as a Motor Vehicle Foreman in the HISA, CECOM attached to Fort Monmouth, NJ retiring in 1985 after 35 years of loyal and dedicated service. Mr. Vetterl is an exempt member of the Fair Haven Volunteer Fire Company NO.1, Active Member of B.P.O.E. Lodge #233 in Red Bank, NJ, and the American Legion in Tequesta, FL.
Mr. Vetterl stayed very active in retirement playing softball into his late 80’s, going to the gym, and keeping up with his many friends in Florida. Mr. Vetterl was a member of Val’s Pal Softball Club, Rumson, NJ, Jupiter Men’s Softball Association, Jupiter, FL and Staying Alive Fitness Club, Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
His wife, the late Doris G. Vetterl predeceased him in 1987. He is survived by his two sons, Thomas J. of Gilbert, AZ and Robert D. of Wakefield, RI, and six grandchildren, Alison, Thomas, Robert, Kristen, Victoria and Justin.
