Richard Wayne Post, 78, died Monday, June 10, at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC., surrounded by his children and grandchildren he loved and loved to spend time with. He was born on December 20, 1945, in Long Branch, New Jersey to John O. and Shirley A. Post. He graduated from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School in June of 1964, and attended Trenton State College for two semesters, before enlisting in the United States Air Force. Upon completion of basic training, he was assigned to the 6910th Security Wing, stationed in Darmstadt, West Germany, where he met the love of his life, Heidrun Kostial. They were married in Germany in 1968 and moved to Fair Haven, NJ upon his honorable discharge in October of 1969, where they raised their children.
Richard worked for Ford Motor Company before and after his enlistment, before joining the Fair Haven Police Department in 1972, from which he retired in 1999 at the rank of Captain, after a long and rewarding career. Richard and Heidrun fell in love with the game of golf and the city of Myrtle Beach in South Carolina and moved there after his retirement. They loved to spend time on the many golf courses in the area, exploring the many restaurants, and entertaining children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends for vacations. Their favorite restaurant was Villa Romana, where they met longtime friend Michael Del Gardo, and would always bring visiting family and friends. After the death of his wife, Richard spent time with his friends, especially Ron and Mickey Pascocello, and Ron’s brother Don Pascocello, playing golf, and he joined a bowling league for many years.
Richard is predeceased by his wife Heidrun and his brother John.
